Underappreciated Players of this Millennium – Antawn Jamison
When Jamison announced his retirement from professional Basketball last summer, not many people seemed to care. There weren’t any tribute videos, compilations or anything similar. WHY? To me he has to be inducted into the HALL OF FAME in the future. Have a quick look at his career accomplishments.
Drafted No. 4 overall in 1998 after a stellar college career at North Carolina , Jamison entered the NBA with the Golden State Warriors and spent his prime with the Washington Wizards. He won the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2004 on a stacked Dallas Mavericks squad, then went to Washington and made the All-Star team in 2005 and 2008.
Jamison averaged 20+ points in 6 seasons (24.9 PPG was his highest season average) and ended his career last summer with career averages of 18.5 PPG, 7.5 REB and 1.6 AST. In the All Time Scoring List, he’s got the 40th spot, ahead of players like e.g Bernard King and John Stockton.
Jamison is one of only 20 players to compile 20.000 points, 8.000 rebounds and 1.000 assists.
He had a pair of 50-point games in back-to-back nights, something only four other players in NBA history have done since 1964 – Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Bernard King and Allen Iverson.
Antawn was a dynamic offensive player who could stretch the floor with his outside shooting and get his unconventional floaters off despite the presence of bigger players in the paint. He should be remembered as an all-around threat and a professional in the locker room. Jamison made $142 million dollars in 17 seasons in the NBA.
He must have been pretty good at basketball.
