It’s on! History in the making – Cavs vs Warriors – Game 7

The 2016 NBA Finals was—a few weeks ago—considered done after Golden State took a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers. After a Draymond Green suspension, scoring history being made by one of the best duos in the league, and another LeBron James explosion, the Cavaliers have made a historic comeback, forcing Game 7.

June 19, 2016 is an extremely important date in NBA history. Not only will history be written by another team being donned champion, but the Cleveland Cavaliers could make history of their own. The city of Cleveland has not won a professional sports championship since the 1964 Cleveland Browns of the NFL. If the Cleveland Cavaliers pull off this amazing comeback, they will be the first team in league history to win the title after trailing 3-1.

On the other hand, the Golden State Warriors’ historic 73-9 season could be spoiled without the Larry O’Brien Trophy. This one game could solve the question of which team was greater, Michael Jordan’s 1995-96, 72-10 Chicago Bulls (who won a championship) or Stephen Curry’s 2015-16, 73-9 Golden State Warriors. Golden State has their backs to the wall; their once-in-a-lifetime season can be completely be shattered by an angry LeBron James.

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson calls Game 7 win or bust.

“We expected to win the NBA championship coming into this season,” Thompson said. “It’s either win the whole thing or bust for us.”

A Game 7 defeat would mean LeBron James lost three straight NBA Finals and is 2-5 overall, becoming just the third player in NBA history with that many defeats in the Finals. Subpar performances from James allowed Cleveland’s deficit to fall to two games; he and Kyrie Irving carried the Cleveland Cavaliers back, just like superstars do.

LeBron James—coming off back-to-back 41-point performances—reminded the city of Cleveland why he made his dramatic return.

“I came back for a reason, and that is to bring a championship to the city of Cleveland, to northeast Ohio and all of Ohio and all Cavaliers fans in the world,” James said. “That’s been one of my goals. But I don’t add too much pressure on it.”

Game 7 is set. A game with Super Bowl-like intentions will be watched by millions of fans around the world. The Stephen Curry craze will continue or LeBron James will take back his throne.
