Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey reveals Jared Sullinger is about a month away from making his regular season debut. Sullinger, who was signed by Toronto during the offseason, underwent surgery on his left foot during training camp.
The 24-year-old Sullinger no longer wears a walking boot and has been able to pressure more his left foot. Though he’s doing better, he does not want to rush back and risk another injury.
Coach Casey insists that Sullinger is an intelligent basketball player.
”He has been great with his insights. I tell him I would rather have him as the player Sully than the coach Sully, but he has a great basketball IQ and some great advice,” said the 59-year-old Casey, as quoted by TSN. ”You know when guys are pulling your tail and giving you bullcrap, but his stuff is real, really intelligent insight into who we are playing and how to play certain guys and certain situations. That has been very helpful. And it’s like I told him, this can help him when he goes on the floor so now he can think through situations so he has no excuse before he makes a mistake.”
With a record of 21-8, Toronto holds the second spot in the Eastern Conference behind the reigning champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
Sullinger’s career averages see him posting 11.1 points, 7.7 rebounds along with 1.8 assists per game.
