Cavaliers Plan on Using Kyle Korver Off Bench

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has announced newly-acquired sharpshooter Kyle Korver will come off the bench, with DeAndre Liggins remaining in the starting lineup until JR Smith returns.

Coach Lue prefers DeAndre Liggins as a starting guard to be a menace against opposing point guards. His 2015-16 D-League Defensive Player of the Year honor is evident for his defensive ability.

Lue says Korver will fit better on the bench because of his ability to move off-the-ball to find himself open beyond the three-point line.

“Especially a guy who can move without the ball the way he moves coming off screens and things like that, there’s no better guy,” Lue said. “You put him on the floor with Channing [Frye], RJ [Richard Jefferson], LeBron [James] and the floor will open wide, so now you got to pick your poison when you try to help off Kyrie and LeBron.”

This is not the first time Kyle Korver will be relied on off-the-bench. Korver was assigned the bench role a few times this season for Atlanta–where he still averaged 27.9 minutes per game–due to the breakthrough of Kent Bazemore. Korver is a beautiful addition to the Cleveland Cavaliers roster. His ability to stretch the floor and knock down the three will make Cleveland that much harder to stop.
