Derrick Rose Had The Idea of “Walking Away From Basketball” during his Absence
New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose caused turmoil amongst his team when he failed to show up to the Knicks’ 110-96 loss to the Pelicans on Monday. Rose did not reach out to team officials during the time of his absence and had teammates and fans worried about where he may be. The reason? A respectable one, having Rose return to his hometown of Chicago to be with his mother. It is unclear what his mother is going through, but it must be serious for Rose to pack his bags and leave in such a fashion.
Because he did not tell anybody where he was going, New York has fined Rose. The former Most Valuable Player explained himself to the team admitting he was an emotional wreck and needed “space.” According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Rose admitted he wanted to “walk away from basketball” to clear his mind.
Derrick Rose will supposedly suit up for Wednesday’s game against Philadelphia, but it is not clear if head coach Jeff Hornacek will use him. To go with the fine, the Knicks may punish him with little-to-no playing time for a game or two. Perhaps they’ll insert him into the lineup hoping for their star point guard to overcome the recent drama.
Family is just as important as basketball to Rose. Hopefully news does not come about of Rose acting recklessly because of his current situation. Rejoining his teammates in New York, and playing the game he loves is his first step towards getting through this.
