Klay Thompson Plans on Re-Signing With Golden State This Summer

Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson is open to staying with the team once his four-year contract expires at the end of this season.

The 26-year-old Thompson was the No. 11 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and has yet to play for a team outside Bay Area.

Thompson was a key contributor in Golden State’s 2014-15 season, which saw the team winning their first NBA championship since 1975.

Thompson is averaging 21.3 points while shooting 47% from the field on the season. His career averages sees him posting 18.7 points along with 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

”I try not to think that far ahead, but I’d love to be here for as long as I can. What we’ve built here is so special, and I love living in the Bay Area, so that would be a huge priority of mine … I just feel like if I play hard and work hard every day, I’ll get rewarded no matter what I do, so I’m not going to get caught up with the numbers and how much money I could potentially make because it’ll all come around. You’ve just gotta stay humble and be appreciative of what I have. And if I keep working this hard, I’ll be rewarded,” Thompson told USA Today.

Thompson claims his father, former two-time NBA champion (with Lakers) Mychal Thompson taught him to play the game “for the love of it, and not for the money.”

”I think I was raised right, with my dad telling me not to play this game for money but play for the love of it and you’ll be rewarded… I’m happy the way NBA players get paid; we deserve it for the revenue we bring in for this league, and I’m just thankful I’m here. I know if I just keep doing what I do, I’ll be rewarded hopefully for a long time,” Thompson finished.

Though his scoring numbers haven’t been too consistent this year because of the addition of Kevin Durant–who takes touches away from Thompson–Klay Thompson has still had his standout games.

On December 5, 2016, Thompson exploded for a career-high 60 points in just 29 minutes of action. He was shooting flames, knocking down 21/33 of his shots along with eight three-pointers. He became the first player in NBA history to score 60 points in less than 30 minutes.
