Festus Ezeli Will Become The First NBA Player To Undergo Cadaveric Donor Transplantation Surgery
Portland Trailblazers big man Festus Ezeli is set to undergo a cadaveric donor transplantation surgery next week. A cadaveric donor transplantation is an allogeneic transplantation of an organ or tissue from a cadaver (tissue in Ezeli’s case). Yes, you’ve read that correctly, he’ll recieve a body part of a dead human. He will be the first NBA player in history to undergo a surgery like that.
Due to this knee surgery, Ezeli has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Apparently Ezeli and his team of doctors have been looking for a donor for months, but had problems finding a matching donor due to Ezeli’s 6’11 frame.
After signing a two-year, $15.2 million contract this past summer, Festus Ezeli has yet to play a game for the Blazers. We hope for a speedy recovery.
