Steve Kerr Roasts Dennis Rodman About Resting Players Rant
In today’s NBA, head coaches have begun resting players to conserve their bodies for the postseason or to avoid back-to-backs.
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr—who picked up on this from former head coach Gregg Popovich, who began resting players in the late 1990’s—frequently rests his players as they have played more than 90 games in each of the last three seasons.
Kerr’s former Chicago Bulls teammate Dennis Rodman—who was notorious for missing games to attend Wrestlemania or travel to Las Vegas—spoke out recently about today’s players being soft because they rest and that Michael Jordan never took off.
“I saw Dennis Rodman was complaining about it, and I got a good kick out of that,” Kerr told reporters Wednesday, “cause I thought, well Dennis was suspended for 15 games a year anyway, he got plenty of rest. Or Vegas, or he went to Wrestlemania. He just took a night off whenever he wanted, so he can’t complain.”
In three seasons as a Chicago Bull from 1995-98, Rodman missed 47 games
Rodman’s comment that Kerr is speaking upon:
“You know what, LeBron [James’s] doing one thing that I always said that Michael Jordan never did,” Rodman said. “He never rested. He played every game. He played every game. LeBron has the position to do this now because they need him. The league needs him that’s why he’s doing all this crazy sh** now like bitching and complaining and all this bull****.”
