Jerry ‘The Logo’ West Would Like The NBA To Change Its Logo
Jerry West had a stellar NBA career. He was voted into the All-NBA First and Second Teams twelve times, was a 14 time All Star, West holds the NBA record for the highest points per game average in a playoff series with 46.3, and also was a member of the first five NBA All-Defensive Teams which were introduced when he was 32 years old. Jerr West is the only player in history to be named Finals MVP despite being on the losing team and a Basketball Hall of Fame member.
Put all that aside, because what he is most famous for, is for his silhouette being incorporated into the NBA logo.
West was guest on ESPN’s The Jump last night, and they started to discuss about the NBA’s logo, and which player would be deserving if they possibly decided to make a new one.
Jerry West let the world now that he wishes that logo had never been made, and hopes the NBA will change it.
“First of all, I wish that had never gotten out, that logo. No I do, really. I’ve said it more than once. It’s flattering that it’s me, and I know it is me, and it is flattering. To me, I played in the time when they first started to market the league, there were five people they were gonna consider. I didn’t find out about it until the late commissioner told me about it, Walter Kennedy, and then obviously the New York Times had a big article about it. Again, it’s flattering, but if I were the NBA, I would be embarrassed about. I don’t like to do anything to call attention to myself, and when people call me The Logo, that’s just not who I am, period. If they would want to change it, I wish they would. In many ways I wish they would.”
When asked who he thought they should change it to, West, who named Michael Jordan a few year’s back, hesitated and said Adam Silver.
“I would be biased, I’m not gonna say. Maybe they could put the commissioner on there. Adam Silver would look great.”
