The Cleveland Cavaliers Want Carmelo Anthony; Under One Condition
We know that Phil Jackson wanted to get rid of Carmelo Anthony before the start of the new season. Melo is still on his big contract with the Knicks and has a no-trade clause in his contract, which he does not try to get rid of anytime soon, unless it would be the perfect situation for him on a new team.
Phil Jackson is no longer with the Knicks, but it still is very likely that Anthony will leave the team as well. For the Knicks to finally enter their re-build mode, Melo needs to be gone.
The Cavaliers would love to acquire Carmelo Anthony in order to make another title run. Melo would fit in, he also is a good friend of LeBron James, so there shouldn’t be a problem.
But there is;
In order to being able to compete with the Warriors (possibly the Rockets and Wolves, too), the Cavaliers are looking to build their own big 4, consisting of Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Carmelo Anthony. This means that the Cavaliers aren’t willing to part with Kevin Love. But, according to ESPN, the Knicks insist for Love to be included in a deal that would send Anthony to Cleveland.
Carmelo would only waive his non-trade clause for Cleveland (and possibly Houston). So a trade on the Knicks’ terms seems somewhat unlikely, leaving the Knicks with basically one possibility to get rid of their star player – buying him out.
