In 2014, New Orleans Pelicans star center DeMarcus Cousins teased the NBA world that he would release an R&B album called “Misunderstood” under the name ‘Boogie Smooth’ if voted an All-Star starter. The first single off the album would have featured Chance the Rapper, but months later, Cousins admitted the album was just a joke and an attempt to get fans involved.
An avid rap fan, DeMarcus Cousins has been seen hanging out with high profile artists in the past and even had Drake attend his games during his time with Kentucky.
When asked by Mikey Domagala of OpenCourt-Basketball.com who he listens to prior to games, Cousins rattled off a number of rappers he is a fan of, and also mentioned rap doesn’t always have to be his go-to genre.
“Kevin Gates; Future; Drake, of course; Kendrick [Lamar]; Rick Ross,” said Cousins. “It’s a wide variety and depends on my mood. I can also switch it up and have some slow jams and oldies. It really depends on my mood.”
Last summer, Cousins uploaded a video to Instagram making fun of Team USA teammate and Minnesota Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler’s music choice when riding in the car together. Cousins’ facial expression while listening to Florida Georgia Line’s “H.O.L.Y.” says it all.
A fan of DeMarcus Cousins or not, you must admit his music taste is awesome. I’d be interested to hear which slow jams hit the spot for the the 6-foot-11, 269-pound big man.
