[THROWBACK] Gilbert Arenas Vs DeShawn Stevenson – Insane Shooting Contest

I know, I know, the term ‘shooting contest ‘ in the same sentence as ‘Gilbert Arenas’ could mean a lot of things, but I’m referring to a basketball shooting contest in this one.

When former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and NBA Champion DeShawn Stevenson both played for the Washington Wizards, they competed against each other in various practices.

This specific competition was based on some good old trash-talking. After shooting threes during practice, Arenas told Stevenson that he would beat him one-armed. This led to following challenge.

Arenas would have to shoot 100 one-handed three pointers, from the college three-point line. DeShawn would shoot 100 NBA threes, with both hands.

Brendan Haywood and Antonio Daniels were keeping score. Caron Butler rebounded. Cal Booth was the voice of justice and fair play. The whole team was excited, sat down and watched the contest.

Gilber Arenas started out on fire, and ended up making 73 out of 100 college threes, WITH ONE HAND. After finishing his turn, Arenas said:

 “You think he’s going to make 70 three-pointers? Get the heck out of here.”

Then it was DeShawn Stevenson’s turn. He made the first 13. Everyone in the gym got quiet. He made 17 out of his first 18.

“Damn, dawg”, Arenas said

It was very close until the end. Arenas went on to win the contest. Stevenson lost after 95 shots, didn’t shoot the remaining 5 and left disappointedly.
