Bidding War for Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo is just coming off one of the best individual seasons in NBA history, at age 22.
For the season, Giannis averaged a ridiculous
22.9 PPG / 8.7 REB / 5.4 AST / 1.6 STL / 1.9 BLK while shooting 52.2% from the field and 77.0% from the line
He rightfully won the Most Improved Player Award, by a landslide. Giannis believes that he can win MIP again next year. Oh, and the MVP award, too.
Giannis not only has become one of the best players in this league, his advertising value also has exploded. Antetokounmpo’s rookie footwear and apparel endorsement contract with Nike will end before the new season starts. During his rookie contract, he only made $25,000 a year right. This is about to drastically change.
We can expect a bidding war for the Greek Freak’s next shoe deal.
No matter where he signs, Giannis new contract will most likely place him among the top 10 NBA players in the league. Both Adidas and Under Armour reportedly are interested in signing Antetokounmpo, but his current partner, Nike, has a clause, allowing them to match any offer sheet Antetokounmpo signs.
ESPN’s Nick DePaula estimates that Antetokounmpo will make $7 million to $10 million annually on this next endorsement deal.
