Kevin Durant Won’t Go To The White House
This certainly is not surprising, but if the Golden State Warriors are invited to the White House for the annual championship visit with the president, Kevin Durant will not go.
In an interview with ESPN, this year’s Finals MVP said he ‘doesn’t respect who is in office right now’.
“I don’t agree with what he agrees with, so my voice is going to be heard by not doing that. That’s just me personally, but if I know my guys well enough, they’ll all agree with me.”
Ever since growing up in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, which is less than 15 miles away from the country’s capital, it was a dream of Durant to one day visit The White House with the NBA championship trophy. It seems Kevin Durant no longer has that dream.
Most parts of the Golden State Warriors organisation are very critical of Trump. Coach Steve Kerr has criticized the president numerous times, and other players are expected to follow Durant’s lead to not take part in the White House visit.
Donald Trump is being criticized more and more, not least due to his inadequate response to the white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Va.
Kevin Durant thinks that Trump is driving the rise of racism and white supremacists.
“He’s definitely driving it. I feel ever since he’s got into office, or since he ran for the presidency, our country has been so divided and it’s not a coincidence. When Obama was in office, things were looking up. We had so much hope in our communities where I come from because we had a black president, and that was a first. So to see that and to be where we are now, it just felt like we took a turn for the worse, man. It all comes from who is in the administration. It comes from the top. Leadership trickles down to the rest of us. So, you know, if we have someone in office that doesn’t care about all people, then we won’t go anywhere as a country. In my opinion, until we get him out of here, we won’t see any progress.”
Durant also said that even more sports stars should come out and voice their opinions as a matter of leadership and as role models in the community.
