Blake Griffin Thinks Banana Boat Team Could Happen, But Not In L.A
This year’s off-season isn’t even over yet, but the biggest question is already concerning next year’s off-season. Will LeBron James leave Cleveland again?
LeBron’s dream is to build a team that includes his friends, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony – aka the Banana Boat Team.
There are rumors that the Chicago Bulls will buy out Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul hasn’t yet comminted to Houston long-term, and Carmelo Anthony will either stay in New York or go to Houston.
According to Blake Griffin, he could see the four superstars joining forces next season. But not in Los Angeles.
Griffin was a guest at the View From The Cheap Seats podcast and was asked about LeBron potentially teaming up with him on the Clippers. He replied that he does not believe LeBron will end up in Los Angeles.
“Honestly, I don’t see him coming to L.A. period. Listen, again, I have no idea. I think something is brewing with him and his group of guys. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I think something’s brewing and they’re going to try to make that work.”
Griffin went on to name New York as a potential Banana Boat reunion team.
“I could see LeBron going to New York before L.A. I still think, when you go to the Garden, it’s a completely different feeling. The energy, there seems like there’s just a consistent buzz the entire game. … Even last year when you go play them, it’s still there.”
If Griffin’s idea turns out to be right, Carmelo Anthony could possibly stay with the Knicks and not waive his no-trade clause for any team. Then, during the 2018 off season, Paul, Wade, and James would take their talents to the Big Apple and create a new superteam in one of the world’s most interesting cities.
