Udonis Haslem Said He ‘Got Six Fouls And A Flagrant’ After Dwyane Wade Joined Cavs
Udonis Haslem and Dwyane Wade have spent 14 years together with the Miami Heat. Over that time, they’ve become close friends and won three championships. When it was only a matter of time for Wade to be bought out of his contract with the Chicago Bulls, Haslem said that he would love if Wade decided to finish his career where it started. He told the Palm Beach Post:
“I would love to have him back, everybody knows that. Not only is he a great competitor, great teammate I learned a lot from but also a friend of mine, I consider him a brother. I just want Dwyane to be happy. This is the last lap for us both. We deserve to finish it the right way. Whatever makes him happy finishing his career. … hopefully it’s in Miami. I would love for it to be Miami. I want him to finish it right and have no regrets.”
We’ve learned that this won’t happen, at least not this year, as Wade just signed a one-year, $2.3 million dollar contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, to join another good friend of his, LeBron James.
When Haslem heard about Wade signing with the Cavs, he had an extremly funny reaction to it. He told the Miami Herald:
“I will put my special request in with [coach Erik Spoelstra] for minutes in that game. I definitely got six fouls — probably three on each and a flagrant for Dwyane.”
Haslem obviously was joking, or at least only half serious. He later said that this move had nothing to do with the friendship and bond he and Wade got, and that Dwyane would always be his brother.
“At the end of the day, nothing changes for what we have in mind for our plans and what our goals are as an organization. That doesn’t change anything and I don’t take it personal at all. Dwyane has to do what he feels is best for Dwyane. Would I love to have him here? Would I love to play with him here? Yes. But nothing changes with [his] and my relationship. He’s always going to be my brother and our goals here are just the same.”
