Chris Webber Calls Minnesota ‘One of the Most Talented Teams,’ Stresses They Must Grow Offensively

Chris Webber knows plenty about what it takes to become a great NBA team—the TNT analyst played fifteen years in the league and helped lead the stacked Sacramento Kings to the Western Conference Finals during the 2002 postseason.

Of all the teams that improved this offseason, Webber is especially impressed with what the Minnesota Timberwolves have done, adding Jimmy Butler, Jeff Teague, Jamal Crawford and others to the mix, while keeping their young leaders in Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. Minnesota, who finished 31-51 in the Western Conference last season, will improve greatly, Webber said, but “must grow offensively” into a more dynamic powerhouse.

In an exclusive Turner Sports press conference, Webber told Mikey Domagala of OpenCourt-Basketball.com his thoughts on the 2017-18 Minnesota Timberwolves.

“This is one of the most talented teams in the league,” Webber said. “I think [Karl-Anthony Towns] is a top-five player in this league, maybe even higher. [Andrew] Wiggins is a great player as well, and with the additions of [Jimmy] Butler, Jamal Crawford, and Jeff Teague, this will be a young, exciting team to watch. But, I want to see them grow offensively. Last season, they were one of the most frustrating teams to watch offensively. The ball sticks, it doesn’t go side-to side. It’ll be interesting to watch their growth. They should be running people off the court,” Webber concluded.
