The Warriors Think That Russell Westbrook Is Easy To Guard
The Warriors beating the Thunder after trailing three games to one led to Kevin Durant leaving the Thunder to sign with the Warriors. You can say that there’s a rivalry between those teams, that keeps on growing.
Last season, the Thunder were a one man show named Russell Westbrook. But the reigning MVP got some famous help in this past offseason in Paul George and Carmelo Anthony.
The Warriors don’t seem to be too worried about it though. Especially about Russell Westbrook, who they think isn’t very difficult to guard.
Zach Lowe was talking about the rivalry in his latest podcast:
“Jack McCallum’s new book about the Warriors has a bunch of kind of anonymous Warriors talking about Russ and how they don’t fear Russ. How KD left partly cause of Russ. How Russ’s style of play is so easy for them to defend it’s like cake to them.”
“I’ve talked to the Warriors about his kind of stuff. What’s in Jack’s book is 100 percent what they say when you ask them about Russ.”
While Westbrook isn’t the best shooter, I wouldn’t necessarily call him ‘easy to defend’. Let him gain his speed, drive by you to fly through the air and abuse the rim. Then we can talk about ‘easy to defend’ again.
One has to admit though, that the Warriors almost always have a defensive solution for opposing players. They can adapt quickly and are a great defensive team. Otherwise they wouldn’t have won two Championships in the last three years.
