After 4 Years, Emeka Okafor Attempts NBA Comeback

April 15, 2013 – the last time Emeka Okafor played an NBA Game. Now, over four years later, the former number 2 pick is eyeing a comeback.

The now 35-year-old has joined the 76ers nearly about month ago, and even played some minutes in the preseason, averaging 2.6 points on 60 percent shooting from the field with 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 8.2 minutes through five games.

To start the season, Okafor is going to be playing for the Sixers G-League affiliate, trying to work his way up to the NBA roster.

Okafor had some great and productive seasons in the league, averaging a double-double through 5 years. Through his 9 career years in the NBA, he has very respectable career averages:

9.7 PPG / 8.8 REB / 1.6 BLK / 51.2% FG

Many people assumed that Okafor will be lacing up his sneakers again due to financial reasons, but that is not the case. During his time at University of Connecticut, he majored in finance and graduated with honors with a 3.8 GPA. His net worth is stated at over $64 Million.

So this is more like a ‘I’ve got to prove to myself that I still got it situation’, and I really wish for Okafor to play well enough in the G-League to make an NBA return. But being out 4 years, I highly doubt that he will be able to.
