Shabazz Muhammad Is Changing His Name
Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Shabazz Muhammad will no longer be known as Shabazz Muhammad. He won’t go full Ron Artest, as his ‘new’ name will include a part of his old name.
via Jerry Zgoda of StarTribune:
Reserve forward Shabazz Muhammad’s just reads “Bazz” for a reason.
Muhammad said before Friday’s 119-116 victory over Oklahoma City that he intends to legally change his name to just the short, single nickname.
“I just like it,” he said. “Everybody calls me that anyway.”
He said he’s not sure how involved the process is and now long it will be before the name change becomes official and he will be introduced at Target Center and elsewhere as such.
Saying goodbye to his old name, is (possibly) also saying goodbye to his complicated past. In a Los Angeles Times report from 2013, it was revealed that Muhammad was born exactly one year earlier than his claimed birthday of November 13, 1993. His father, Ron Holmes wanted to make Shabazz look better, competing against younger athletes. A year is a whole lot when growing up. Taller, faster, stronger and more athletic. In the end, it worked out for him, and he became an NBA player.
Now that Shabazz Muhammad will no longer be, let’s see what controversial stories Bazz will have in store for us.
