J.R. Smith Explains His ‘Shoot Everytime You Get The Ball’ Mentality

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

This could be the life motto of Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith, who has always been known for shooting the ball as soon as he gets it.

But where does his mentality come from? Is Smith a ‘natural born shooter’? In an interview for Cavs.com, J.R. now explained that his dad taught him that way, by saying: “Don’t risk turning it over. Just shoot it.

While Smith has been moving the ball more than last year, he still isn’t, or ever will be, a passer.
