Joel Embiid Thinks People Are About To Start Hating Him

Over the last year almost every NBA fan has learned to appreciate Joel Embiid. Most fans even like him. Aside from him being an absolute monster on the court, a center unlike anything we’ve seen before, he also is very engaging with the media and fans.

Embiid is very present on social media, makes a lot of jokes about everything and everyone, but seems like a down to earth and very likeable guy. But the big man himself believes that this is about to change. Good fortune does not always shine forever.  Embiid told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne that he thinks that love will soon dissipate.

“People love you at the beginning,” Embiid explains. “But at some point they’re gonna start hating you. LeBron. Russell Westbrook. All the superstars. Even Steph. He’s so likable. He does nothing wrong, but some people still hate him. It just comes with the nature of it. I’ve seen it. I feel like I’m about to go through it. I think it’s coming. People always want something new.”

The thing is, Joel is right. NBA fandom has always changed quickly and the more successful a player becomes, the more haters show up. The comparison with Curry isn’t wrong. During Stephen Curry’s first MVP year, he was everybody’s darling. But with the Warriros success, more and more haters were born.

Let’s just hope Emiid doesn’t change the way he is. With haters or without. He is the funniest NBA player on social media and I don’t want that to change.
