First All-Star Nomination? Lou Williams Thinks He Deserves It

If someone told you, prior to the season, that Lou Williams will have a legitimate chance to make the All-Star team, you probably would have laughed. But, out of nowhere, at age 31, Lou Williams is having a career year.

Williams is averaging a career high 23.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists (also a career high) and 1.1 steals per game. Ever since the new year has started, Williams has been lights out even more than before. In the 10 games he played this year, he only scored less than 25 points twice and leads the league in points per game in 2018 with 30.1.

His performances put him in serious consideration of becoming an All-Star for the first time in his career. Lou spoke to the Los Angeles Times, and said that he deserves to be in it:

“Naw, I’ll be proud if I make it. Honestly, I deserve it. I rarely speak about myself because I’ve never set personal goals. Being an All-Star wasn’t even on my radar this year.”

“But with what this team has been through this year with injuries, with so many different lineups and still having an opportunity to compete for the playoffs and to put ourselves over .500 at this point, I think I’ve got something to do with that.”

While it is fair to discuss whether or not he should be in the All-Star Game (he definitely has a strong case), his competition amongst the Western Conference guards is more than tough. Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard and Jimmy Butler will fight with Williams to join Stephen Curry and James Harden as guards in the All-Star team.
