Why Devin Booker Didn’t Break The 3-Point Contest Record
This past All-Star weekend, Devin Booker won the 3-point contest with an impressive performance.
Booker had 28 points in the final round, which is an all-time record, missing only five of his 25 shots. But, it actually isn’t an all-time record if we judge fairly. In 1986, Craig Hodges scored the most points in a single round at 25. That means he made a minimum of 20 shots. The problem; back then, there was no money ball rack. Then, in 1991 Hodges recorded one more made three than Booker did this year. Again, his score did not surpass Booker’s score due to the money ball rack.
Craig Hodges played in the NBA for 10 seasons and led the league in 3-point shooting percentage in 3 of them. He also won two NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, and along with Larry Bird, is one of only two players to win three consecutive Three Point Contests. Hodges won in 1990, 1991, and 1992 and was the runner-up in 1986 and 1989.
