Rasheed Wallace Claims His 2004 Pistons Would Crush Any Of The Current Teams

The 2004 Detroit Pistons will forever be one of my favorite teams of all time. The hustle, the grind, the intensity have never been met by another team ever since.
A team filled with stars, but missing a real ‘superstar’ winning the NBA Championship still is incredibly impressive. They won the title as a collective. One of the team’s key players was Rasheed Wallace. Wallace, who’s know for always speaking his mind, did exactly this during Nike’s ‘Champions Think 16‘interview. During this interview, Sheed claimed that the 2004 Pistons would crush any of the current NBA teams.
“Oh, we would crush ‘em. We could crush it ‘cause we played defense. That’s what we hung our hat on night in and night out was defense. We not gon’ let no one come in and score 140 something points or let one individual player score 55 points. Nah, that’s not happening.”
The members of the 2004 Pistons definitely aren’t lacking self-esteem. After the Warriors’ 2016 record regular season, Sheed’s teammate Rip Hamilton said in an interview, that he believes his old Detroit Pistons team would beat these Warriors.
“It would be no comparison. We can guard every position. Every guy from our point guard to our five, can guard any position. We were big. We were long.”
The league has changed a lot in these last 14 years and teams have stronger offenses and weaker, less aggressive defenses. It will always be one of these unsolvable “what if” myths.
