Newest Big 3, Harden, Paul And Anthony Play Basketball For The First Time As Rockets Teammates
Last week, Carmelo Anthony was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-way deal. The Thunder received Dennis Schröder from Atlanta and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot from Philadelphia. The Hawks meamwhile now have Justin Anderson (Sixers) on their roster and receive a lottery-protected 2022 first-round draft pick from the Thunder. Philly gets Mike Muscala from Atlanta.
But Anthony won’t ever play a minute for the Hawks, who will buy him out for his full 2018-19 salary, $27.9 million.
After he is waived, Carmelo Anthony is expected to sign a $2.4 million veteran minimum contract with the Rockets. According to Marc Stein, it could be several more days before Anthony is formally traded and clears waivers.
While we won’t know if it works out, getting Anthony (if he’s ok with whatever role D’Antoni wants him to play) for the minimum may turn out to be amazing for the Rockets.
The three, Melo, CP3 and Harden are friends and have great chemistry on the court. We’ve got to see a glimpse of it, when the three played a pickup game, yesterday.
