Stephen Curry Reveals Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Didn’t Draft Him

This surely is one of the biggest draft day fails in NBA history.

In the 2009 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves had the 5th (via Washington) and 6th pick of the first round. On top of that, they were planning to get two guards. When it was their turn, 2-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry was still on the board, but the Wolves went for Ricky Rubio (5th) and Jonny Flynn (6th).

While Rubio is having a decent career, and still is a starting point guard in this league, Flynn’s time in the league was more than underwhelming. He only played a total of 163 NBA games, before going abroad. He retired from basketball in 2014. You know what also happened in 2014? Stephen Curry’s MVP season started.

Now, nine years later, Curry unveiled the story of why the Timberwolves ended up passing on him, per The Bill Simmons Podcast.

“My guy David Kahn. I don’t know where he’s at right now. I don’t know if that ever came out, there’s a story. Everybody knows how much I love golf… play it in my spare time and what not. I think the word on the street was that he didn’t draft me because in Minnesota it’s cold and I wouldn’t be able to play as much golf so I would have been miserable.

I hope it’s true because that’s hilarious. That’s hilarious.”
