The never-ending ‘greatest of all time’ debate, will get some more fuel next season, when LeBron James will pass Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all time scoring list.
I’ve never been a big fan of this debate to begin with. Clyde Drexler always says that he isn’t a fan of comparing eras, and I absolutely agree with him on that. There will always be a ‘Team Jordan’ who is insulted to bring LeBron or anyone else into the GOAT debate, as well as a ‘Team LeBron’ who claims that LeBron is GOAT. Never have I seen anyone from either side change their opinion, and it probably won’t ever happen.
But with or without the debate, LeBron James is looking towards a historic season. Since entering the league in 2003, James has collected 3 Championship rings, 3 Finals MVP awards, 4 regular season MVP awards, 2 All-Star Game MVP awards, 13 All-Star Game nominations, 13 All NBA Teams, 5 All Defensive First Teams, and the Rookie of the Year Award.
In what will be his 16th season, James will likely pass Wilt Chamberlain, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Jordan on the NBA’s most important all-time list. Per Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo Sports:
James enters his 16th season in seventh place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, with 31,038 points. Outscoring Dirk by 149 points would allow him to overtake the German and, considering James has managed that in each of the last 13 seasons, that seems like a solid bet. (Unless Dirk found a drastically different supplement regimen this summer, that is.) James needs 381 points to catch Wilt Chamberlain, currently sitting fifth, and 1,254 points to reach Michael Jordan in fourth.
For your information; LeBron has never scored less than 1654 points in a season, so it won’t be for too long until LeBron will be fourth on that list.
