Lakers Are Interested In Signing Klay Thompson Next Summer

Mychal Thompson, father of Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson and former “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers role player has a strong opinion on which team would win: his son’s history-making Warriors team or the “Showtime” Lakers.

Los Angeles, who dominated the 1980’s–winning five NBA championships from 1980-1989–were one of the flashiest and most exciting teams to ever grace the court. Thompson played five seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and eight seasons with teams in the Western Conference. He played with, and against Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the “Lakeshow;” you can say he knows their strengths and weaknesses.

But in an interview with USA Today Sports, Mychal Thompson admitted that the Lakers would be inferior to his son’s Warriors.

“Two things make me think they would beat us. Their defense — their team defense — is as good as ours was. They really play great team defense,

And number two; three-point shooting. We shot eight a game, they shoot eight a quarter,” he said. “If we played them, they would outscore us 50-16 in threes. So do the math from there.”

If only time traveling was a thing. A matchup between two of the greatest teams of different eras would certainly draw a prodigious crowd and shut up thousands of doubters. Maybe we don’t need time travel to see a Thompson in Lakers uniform after all. Apparently, the Lakers would like to see Thompson Jr repping purple and gold next season. Like father, like son?

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN the Lakers may try to sign Klay during next year’s free-agency.

“In terms of who they target next year, it’s whoever wants to come. “My feeling about it, my sense from just talking to people in and around this (is that) one, it’s a little early, but I think they like Mychal’s boy. I think that would be the guy, in terms of skillset and how that would fit. Obviously Kawhi, he’s a great player as well, but we’ll see if he stays in Toronto now. But I think they like Klay (Thompson).”

It would be a perfect fit considering the Lakers are in need of a sharpshooter.
