Kyrie Irving Apologizes For Saying The Earth Is Flat

During the 2017 All-Star break, Kyrie Irving was guest on Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye’s Road Trippin’ Podcast to discuss the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, conspiracy theories… And if planet Earth is round or flat.

Jefferson and Frye first asked Irving if he believed in aliens. But, Irving didn’t care to answer about extra terrestrials as he curved the question and brought up if they believe Earth is round.

The Duke product’s explanation puzzled each and every listener, as well as his teammates.

“This is not even a conspiracy theory,” Irving said. “The Earth is flat.”

Irving then blamed “particular groups” (that weren’t named) that persuade people to believe Earth is round, but is indeed flat.

“It’s right in front of our faces. I’m telling you, it’s right in front of our faces. They lie to us.

What I’ve been taught is that the earth is round. But if you really think about it from a landscape of the way we travel, the way we move and the fact that, can you really think of us rotating around the sun and all planets aligned, rotating in specific dates, being perpendicular with what’s going on with these planets?”

Richard Jefferson—in amazement—proceeded to ask: “How are you going to put the word ‘planets’ in quotations?”

“Because, everything that they send—or that they want to say they’re sending–doesn’t come back,” Irving reasoned. “There is no concrete information except for the information that they’re giving us. They’re particularly putting you in the direction of what to believe and what not to believe. The truth is right there, you just got to go searching for it.”

Irving has now apologized for talking about flat-earth theories, while speaking at the Forbes Under 30 Summit. Kyrie admitted that he was really into conspiracy theories at the time. While he apologized to everyone affected by his flat earth phase, he didn’t say that he believes otherwise:

“What you say, what you do, and how you mean it — at the time, I was huge into conspiracies. Everybody’s been there. Everybody’s been there like, ‘Whoa! What’s going on with our world?!” … At the time, you’re like innocent in it, but you realize the effect of the power of voice. Even if you believe in that, just don’t come out and say that stuff — it’s for intimate conversations because perception while you’re received changes. I’m actually a smart-ass individual … At the time, I just didn’t realize the effect … I’m sorry about all that.”
