Turns Out, Kawhi Leonard Never Was A Lakers Fan In The First Place
Crazy what a couple of months can do!
After the deal that sent DeMar DeRozan to the San Antonio Spurs and Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors, both players weren’t too happy about the deal. Now, a few weeks into the season both seem to be thriving within their new teams.
DeRozan is averaging career highs across the board under his new coach Gregg Popovich, and Leonard is back to full strength, after a forgettable 2017-18 campaign. While a lot of people considered the Kawhi-Raptors relationship a one-year thing at first, they can’t be as sure anymore. Many still believe that, after this season, Leonard will join forces with LeBron James and the Lakers. Turns out, against popular belief, Kahwi wasn’t even a Lakers fans as a kid. He didn’t like them! That’s what he told Mirjam Swanson of the Los Angeles Daily News
“No, I wasn’t, I wasn’t at all,” Leonard said when asked if he was a Lakers fan as a kid. “My family was, but I wasn’t.”
“I liked Allen Iverson. I was an A.I. fan, so I didn’t like the Lakers.”
