Wizards Tear Each Other Apart Even After An Amazing Win
This past NBA summer, when Dwight Howard and the Washington Wizards agreed on a two-year, $11 million deal, ESPN’s Ryen Russillo said following words:
Actually, it’s a perfect fit. You wanna know why? Because Dwight is probably the most delusional player of his generation, going to one of the most delusional teams in the league. The Wizards think they are the toughest guys in the court, they talk all the talk, and they almost never back it up. This is the most mentally fragile team in the league, and you’re adding this guy that’s constantly been a problem on all these other teams… But in a way, it’s the perfect fit!”
Well, a good month into the season, we can all agree that he was right in the first place. After a disappointing start, the team has basically made every player available for a potential trade. But that’s not even where all the drama starts and ends. There is the John Wall, Scott Brooks drama, and then there are general locker room issues and a horrific team chemistry. Austin Rivers said:
“I don’t even know what the f**k we are. Our record’s terrible.”
An anonymous Wizards player was quoted:
“We love Scott Brooks. Love playing for him. He just can’t coach John. John just walks all over him and it frustrates everybody. The way he plays is impossible to play with. We have so many guns, not enough bullets.”
Michael Lee of The Athletic provided comments from Beal:
“We’ve already aired out a lot of our problems the last couple of years. It’s not like any of our stuff is a secret. We just got to do it on the floor. It’s not like we have bad character guys or bad guys. We’re just not getting it [done] in between the lines… Maybe it’s entitlement. Maybe we’re too cool. Maybe we feel we can flip it on a switch. All the things we’ve said in the past that’s been a problem with us. I don’t know. That’s the annoying part about it. You can’t pinpoint it as one thing.”
Then, even after an amazing comeback win against the Clippers last night, Wizards players weren’t able to prevent the turmoil in the locker room from spilling out. Forward Markieff Morris kind of exploded and went at his team:
“It’s f***** up what’s going on. So I wouldn’t say that it makes it nicer. We’ve just got to figure it out”
“The comments that’s coming from the locker room is f***** up. It dont happen in other sports. So it’s messed up”
Markieff on if this win, amidst last 24 hours, is better: "It’s f***** up what’s going on. So I wouldn’t say that it makes it nicer. We’ve just got to figure it out"
"The comments that’s coming from the locker room is f***** up. It dont happen in other sports. So it’s messed up"
