Mike Muscala Had To Fly Across The Entire Continent And Back Due To Trade Madness
Mike Muscala has been bouncing around the NBA for five years now and has played for the Atlanta Hakws, and the Philadelphia 76ers.
While he’s always been a decent big man, with high-scoring stretches during his Hawks career, he’s never been able to become more than a role player in his career. After staying with the same team during his first four years of his career, he’s now become somewhat of a journeyman, especially in these past few days.
This past summer, Muscala was involved in the multiple team trade around Dennis Schröder and Carmelo Anthony. The Thunder received Dennis Schröder from Atlanta and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot from Philadelphia. The Hawks meamwhile got Justin Anderson from the Sixers and a lottery-protected 2022 first-round draft pick from the Thunder. Philly received Mike Muscala from Atlanta.
But for Muscala the real craziness ensued this past week. After being traded from Philadelphia to the Los Angeles Clippers in the trade that sent Tobias Harris to Philadelphia, Mike flew to Los Angeles to take his physical with the Clippers. He was then sent to LAX to fly to Boston and meet with his new team in Boston, where they played last night. But then, his agent called and told him that he had been traded again. This time, to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Michael Beasley and Ivica Zubac. Since the Lakers are playing against the Sixers in Philadelphia today, he flew straight back to Philadelphia, the city he boarded a plane less than 36 hours prior to the craziness.
This may have been their conversation (credit to Redditor Magnetronaap):
Agent: “Hey Mike, they traded you to the Clippers. You gotta go to LA.”
Mike: “Okay”
Flies to LA
A: “The team is already in Boston, get their ASAP!”
M: “Sure thing”
A: “Hey Mike.. ehm.. You got traded again.. But there’s good news, they traded you to the other LA team.”
M: “Uhm okay, so I can just stay here?”
A: “No, they’re playing in Philadelphia next.”
M: “For f*ck sakes!”
