Most Aussie Story Ever: Brett Brown Was Chased By An Emu For Stealing Its Eggs To Make Breakfast
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown has been in the NBA since 2002. Brown was working as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs for 11 years prior to taking over as head coach in Philly.
But before his time in San Antonio, coach Brown was working in the Australian NBL for the North Melbourne Giants, the Melbourne Tigers and the Sydney Kings.
From that time in the 90s comes one of the ‘most Aussie’ stories I’ve ever heard. Brown told the story of how he stole emu eggs to make an omelet for breakfast, and only barely got away in time before the big bird came to rip him apart.
“He’s like, ‘We gotta go!’ and I look back and I could see this emu coming from probably 30 yards away, and, I mean, they move. I had this decision — do I let go of these eggs? We just booked it, and we ended up losing the emu. Good breakfast,”
Before coaching the 76ers, Brett Brown had some … crazy life experiences in Australia 😂
