Stephen Curry Opens Up About Kevin Durant Leaving And Signing With The Nets

Two weeks ago, Kevin Durant revealed that he will be signing a four year contract, worth $164 million with the Brooklyn Nets, even though the Warriors offered Durant a supermax contract worth $221 million over five years.

In Brooklyn, Durant will be trying to build a new dynasty, together with his friend, Kyrie Irving.

This means that the last time we saw Kevin Durant wear Warriors colors, was when he hobbled off the field with a torn achilles. Not the best goodbye. Not for KD, not for his teammates and not for Warriors fans.

When the news were revealed, Durant’s former star point guard colleague and friend, Stephen Curry was 37,000 feet in the air on a flight from Shanghai, China to New York City to see Durant. But if his goal was to convince the two-time Finals MVP to staying, he was too late.

Then yesterday, Stephen Curry talked to the media for the first time after ‘losing’ Durant. He did so after a practice round at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Tahoe.

Per The Mercury News:

“I mean, the three years that we had were special. With KD, we had three straight Finals appearances. We won two of them, and we accomplished a lot as a group. Everybody talks about the amount of talent that we had on our team, but that doesn’t guarantee that you can figure it out on the court, that you can put all the pieces together to be successful. I’m really proud of what we accomplished.

The beauty of free agency is everybody has a decision, everybody has a choice. You want to find your happiness wherever that is. The beauty of the NBA is everybody has that decision at some point, especially guys that deserve it, like KD and other top free agents. I like to look at what we accomplished and focus on that and be extremely proud of this run that we had. Now we are going to have to recreate it in terms of what it means going forward.”
