Tobias Harris Changes Jersey Numbers – The Story Of Number 12
When Tobias Harris had just completed his sophomore year at high school, he received a devastating call. His best friend and former teammate, Morgan Childs, had died at the young age of 17, after his battle with leukemia.
When Harris attended the funeral with his father, he made a promise to himself and his friend.
“He looked at me and said that he was going to make it to the top and he was going to do it wearing Morgan‘s number, No. 12,” Harris’ father said. “He knew how much Morgan loved the game, and he made a promise to keep his spirit with him always.”
For the rest of his high school career, in college, and whenever it was possible in the NBA, Tobias wore the number 12. With TJ McConnell leaving Philadelphia to join the Indiana Pacers, the number 12 got available again. Harris instantly claimed back Morgan’s number, and will be wearing the number 12 jersey again this coming season.
