Fans Call For Refunds For Team USA Vs Boomers Games In Melbourne Due To Mass Withdrawals And False Advertising
On August 5, Team USA will start their Las Vegas training camp for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. The problem – more and more stars are withdrawing from Team USA 2019.
In these past couple of days, James Harden, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, CJ McCollum, Eric Gordon, Tobias Harris, DeMar DeRozan, and Zion Williamson, among others, have all withdrawn from the team, leaving the current roster with only 2 All-Stars.
This also means that all of these players won’t be playing in the ‘much hyped in Australia’ Australia vs USA games in Melbourne on August 22 and 24.
Additionally, Ben Simmons also withdrew from Team Australia, leaving the team without its star player.
Since the game was being advertised with Kevin Durant, Paul George, James Harden, and Anthony Davis until this morning (it has now been changed due to the heat), and a lot of people paid a lot of money for tickets expecting to see these star players, there reportedly have been calls for refunds, as well as a change.org petition with 1000s of signatures already.
These refund request have been declined:
“The teams who will play at the Marvel Stadium games in Melbourne comprise of the very best basketball athletes from each of Australia and the United States.
Like any team sport, injuries, suspensions, team balance and form play a part in determining the final squads. We are very excited that these games will feature the strongest USA Team ever to play in Australia and they will face the strongest ever Boomers team. These are not just exhibition games – they are crucially important final preparations before the FIBA World Cup – with huge stakes involved. So they will be fiercely contested and incredible sporting events in front of a massive sell-out crowd of mainly Boomers fans! We hope you understand and we look forward to sharing this momentous sporting event with us in August.”
