Even Though Sitting Next To Him, Bill Walton Didn’t Recognize Dwight Howard

Bill Walton and Dwight Howard have a lot in common. Both are centers who, during their primes, were among the best and most dominant in league history. But both of their primes also were cut short by various injuries.

While it was Walton’s feet that were causing him to step down more and more, it was/is the back that’s been causing Howard lots of problems in these past few years.

The two sat next to each other at this year’s ESPY awards but Bill Walton didn’t recognize Howard.

In his interview with Shams, Howard told the story of Walton not recognizing him.

“I went to the ESPYs. I sat next to Bill Walton. And he says, ‘How you doing I’m Bill Walton.’ And I say, ‘I’m Dwight Howard.’ He says, ‘No you’re not!’ And I was like, ‘Something wrong with Bill.’ That’s what I said at first.

“He said, ‘Are you really Dwight Howard?’ And I was like, ‘Yes.’ He was like, ‘You don’t look like him.’ So I was like, ‘It’s really me.’ And so we stood up and he said, ‘It’s really you! You’re Dwight Howard. You got different hair. You got tattoos. What’s going on? You look so different, but I love it.’ He didn’t recognize me.”
