South Park Mocks NBA’s Poor Response To Morey’s Tweet

After Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey tweeted his support for the Hong Kong protestors, the NBA has faced a major backlash from China. Everything that has to do with the Rockets has basically been deleted in China. Nike stopped selling Rockets products and in every fan shop or NBA related website or store in China, you’ll only find 29 existing NBA teams from now on.

But China also cancelled other NBA games and events that had been scheduled for this or the coming weeks.

Overall, there are only losers in this controversy. Players who normally are very vocal on political issues, human rights and injustices keep their mouths shut, and most members of the media, too. Unfortunately. The NBA seems to be fine with personnel engaging on social issues, just not ones that affect them financially. Or as the Rolling Stone put it, ‘The NBA Chooses China’s Money Over Hong Kong’s Human Rights’.

But, just like everything Houston Rockets is now banned in China, everything South Park is too.

The episode, “Band in China,” ironically got the show banned and virtually erased in China.

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker went on to show the NBA how to properly respond and apologize to an angry Chinese regime.
