“Embiid Is More Likely To Be Moved” League Executives Believe
Rumblings around the league surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers mainly involve their two best players, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Fans believe Sixers have a clunky fit and an Embiid-and-Simmons split would be beneficial for the team in the long run.
As the ‘trade Embiid/Simmons’ crowd continues to sprout, Tim Bontemps of ESPN revealed that there is no consensus that the Sixers would part ways with either of the two guys. However, if the Sixers do explore a trade, league executives believe Embiid is more likely to be moved. In addition, one league executive also said a big trade featuring Simmons or Embiid might be the only way to reshape the team.
During the all-star break, Embiid addressed these loud critics surrounding him and Simmons and called it B.S. Via ESPN:
“I think it’s B.S.,” Embiid said here Saturday morning before All-Star practice, “because when you look at the last couple years, the last two years that we’ve been playing together, it’s not a problem. This year it’s only been a problem because our offense has struggled.”
“It’s definitely going to be better after the All-Star break. I mean, just look at the last two years, what we’ve been able to do. I think it can work, and it’s going to work.”
In two years together, the duo has accomplished two 50-win seasons and two second round appearances. This season, the Sixers have not lived up to expectations and are currently the 5th seed in the conference. This drawback has added fuel to the critics that Embiid and Simmons couldn’t work together and trading either one of them might be the best option moving forward.
