George Karl Calls Melo The Best Offensive Player He Has Ever Coached, Regrets Not Helping Him To Win A Ring
Carmelo Anthony is without a doubt, one of the best offensive players the game has ever seen. The ability to create and make any shot from inside, the free throw line, from three, in the post, and from midrange—makes him an absolute matchup nightmare for any opponent. With his redefined offensive skillset, Melo rarely gets left off of anyone’s ‘one of the best offensive players’ list.
A similar thought grasps in his former coach, George Karl, who called him the best offensive player he has ever coached.
Melo was the best offensive player I ever coached. Looking back, I wish I had done a better job of helping him become a championship player. https://t.co/bs3JvvzxH6 pic.twitter.com/TSI2I6vpC5

Despite of his offensive game, Melo gets a lot of flak for his lack of playoff success. An amazing offensive player, that isn’t regarded as that alpha guy to lead a team to a championship.
“Looking back, I wish I had done a better job of helping him become a championship player.” George Karl added. “I think that was the one thing sometimes that compromised what we had with one another.”
Carmelo played under George Karl in Denver for almost 7 seasons. In his stint with the Denver Nuggets, he never sniffed a Finals appearance and only made the conference finals once.
The 2009 Western Conference Finals against Kobe Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers is arguably the biggest stage Melo has ever been stepped on.
Carmelo Anthony, who’s 35 years old now, is till averaging 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists on 42.6% shooting with the Portland Trailblazers. They’re currently 9th in the Western Conference and are on chase to snatch a playoff spot, if the season was to continue. A finals appearance or luckily, a championship ring as a role player is the last thing he and his fans are hoping for.
