All Cedric Maxwell Got For Winning NBA Finals MVP Was A Cheap Watch
Aside from maybe Andre Iguodala, Cedric Maxwell certainly was the most unlikely player to ever win the Finals MVP award.
Cornbread may have had a pretty successful career, winning two championships and said Finals MVP with the Boston Celtics, but he mostly was a role player. This is also why he’s the only Finals MVP in NBA history without a single All-Star nomination.
When talking to Brian Scalabrine on NBC Sports Boston, Maxwell revealed what he got for winning the title. But unlike most players, who are gifted a car or something else of value, he had to console himself with a relatively cheap watch. The only benefit? Unlike a car, that most likely wouldn’t be running anymore today, the watch still is in Maxwell’s position.
Brian Scalabrine: “What else comes with winning Finals MVP?”
Cedric Maxwell: “You know what, I got jacked! They gave me a watch.”
BS: “A rolex?”
CM: “Dude, it’s not a Rolex!”
*Proceeds to show a relatively cheap looking watch.*
BS: “How many time have you worn the watch?”
CM: “Dude, I’ve never worn this watch.”
CM: “I end up showing this watch to Jayson Tatum, all those guys this year… They all looked at me like ‘you got screwed!’.
