Steve Kerr Scraps Asterisk Talks Attached To This Year’s NBA Champions

Many NBA fans are claiming that this season and the crowned champions deserve an asterisk due to the unprecedented circumstances that were triggered by the coronavirus pandemic. But Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has a different opinion.

Appearing on 95.7 The Game, Kerr voiced his opinion regarding the asterisk talks that have been going around as of late.

“The one thing I feel really strongly about is a championship under these conditions is gonna count,” Kerr said on “Damon, Ratto and Kolsky.” “People are gonna want to put an asterisk next to it. There’s no asterisk in my mind. This is gonna be a brutally difficult journey to try and win a title.”

Since the hiatus took effect after Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert was tested positive for COVID-19, NBA teams and players were faced with unfortunate conditions, as a lot of these players have had a lack of access to basketball courts, requisite equipment and other practice facilities.

Furthermore, the NBA was forced to finalize a new format for the resumption of the season, changing the schedule; adding a play-in tournament and introducing an 8-game regular season format, as well as setting up a bubble plan. All of these circumstances shaped the NBA as we knew it and have driven the notion that the 2020 NBA season does deserve an asterisk.

The NBA is set to return in the World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Unfortunately, Kerr and the Warriors aren’t part of the 22 teams that are invited to NBA’s return-to-play.
