Yesterday, The Nets Made Their Final Payment To Deron Williams, After Paying Him $15K Every Day Over The Last 5 Years
There are few players who have had as tragic of a demise as Deron Williams.
After being celebrated as, together with Chris Paul, possibly the best point guard of an entire generation, Williams had fallen to become an unmotivated role player, before eventually disappearing from the NBA completely.
While Deron Williams last played in the NBA in 2017, he still got paid by the Brooklyn Nets, who he hasn’t played for since 2015, until today, July 1st, 2020.
The Nets paid the former All-Star the final installment of the 5-year, $98 million contract Williams signed in 2012.
Yes, the time span from 2012 until today is more than five years, but when the Nets waived him with two years and over $40 million remaining, they agreed to a buyout that lasted until yesterday. This buyout included a $5.5 million payment each year, until June 30, 2020.
