When Chris Andersen Missed ’32 Dunks’ At The 2005 Slam Dunk Contest

During the 2005 All Star weekend, Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen participated in the dunk contest. It turned out to be one of the worst performances in dunk contest history!

Andersen actually is a pretty good dunker, as he has shown numerous time throughout his NBA career. But that night, he wasn’t himself. Andersen needed between 15 and 32 attempts (depends what you consider an attempt) to complete two dunks. Normally, dunk contest highlight videos from one player are about two minutes long, Andersen’s tho lasts for over five and a half minutes and can barely be considered a ‘highlight’ tape.

Kenny Smith saw it coming before Andersen even started attempting his dunks saying:

“He’s missing a couple ice cubes in his tray.”

After Birdman’s attempts, Julius Dr. J Erving, who was a judge, said it best:

“This is hard, it’s harder than it looks. But it ain’t that hard.”
