Donovan Mitchell Interestingly Recalls The Night The NBA Shut Down

On March 11, 2020, before the Utah Jazz’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Rudy Gobert became the first NBA player to test positive for the coronavirus, which not only lead to the game’s suspension but also triggered the NBA to eventually stop all operations.

Gobert also became the center of criticism for his reckless behavior, mocking the risks of the coronavirus shortly before testing positive.

It has been exactly 18 weeks and six days since the NBA season was suspended due to the coronavirus, and the NBA is ready and about to return.

Bleacher Report has now put out a mini documentary about March 11, 2020, the day that ‘will go down as one of the most pivotal moments in NBA history’. In this documentary, Donovan Mitchell (and NBA reporters) shared never-been-told details about the night the league suspended the season. Mitchell initially thought all the guys running out in suits were from the FBI.

“It was just a regular Road trip. Rudy [Gobert] and I, we generally sit across the aisle from each other…

Got there the night before, was pretty excited for this game, just ready to go. We knew Rudy was going to be out for the game, he as feeling a little bit sick. We get to the game, we warm up. Everything is going real smooth, and next thing you know is you see a bunch of guys in suits run out. I thought, it was the FBI!”
