Dwyane Wade Says LeBron James Is The Best Player But Giannis Antetokounmpo Is The MVP

Dwyane Wade isn’t letting his long-time brotherhood with MVP candidate LeBron James influence his pick for the Most Valuable Player of the Year award this season.

While Wade acknowledged James as the best player in the NBA, the retired Miami Heat shooting guard has made it known during the set of ‘NBA on TNT’ that Giannis Antetokounmpo should win the MVP award over his former Heat teammate.

“As a player, you pick your MVP and nobody knows what you said. Today is the first day I’m really in the media because people get to hear my pick. For me Giannis came back this season as the reigning MVP, he didn’t do anything to lose that. LeBron was catching him, he was really picking up steam before the season ended.”

“I felt that the last 20 games was going to really determine who was going to be MVP. We did not have that, Giannis did not lose MVP, I felt he’s been the front runner. But LeBron is the best player in the game right now and what he’s doing in his 17th year. If there was an award for that, he’ll get that award. But overall Giannis has been the MVP all season.”

What LeBron James is doing in year 17 is nothing short of remarkable. He’s leading the league in assists, leading the best team in the West and is the most impactful player on the team by the numbers.

If longevity is part of everyone’s criteria, James may possibly be the one running away with the award already. But as reality kicks in, it appears that the MVP award is The Greek Freak’s award to lose now.

Antetokounmpo has had a jaw-dropping season, averaging 29.6 points, 13.7 rebounds, 5.8 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks per game on 54.7% shooting from the field, leading the best team in the NBA, as well as being a top candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year.
