LeBron James Recalls Losing DPOY To Marc Gasol In 2013: “But He Made Second-Team All-Defense”
LeBron James made it clear that he was pissed about losing the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award, despite spearheading the Los Angeles Lakers to the first-seed in the Western Conference while also leading the league in assists.
Now during a media session, the Lakers superstar showed a skeptical attitude over award results, evidently questioning how the voting process works out for these NBA awards in general. James then cited losing the DPOY race to Marc Gasol who didn’t even make the First-Team All-Defense in 2013.
“It’s just the voting scale is a little weird to me sometimes,” James said. “I mean, if you take 2012. If you just stick with me — or 2012-13, I had a chance to be Defensive Player of the Year and also MVP in the same season. And that year [Marc] Gasol was [voted] Defensive Player of the Year, but he made second team all-defense, OK.”
"I had a chance to be defensive player of the year and also MVP in the same season. In that year Marc Gasol was rewarded defensive player of the year, but he made 2nd team all-defense."
