Carmelo Anthony Speaks Out About The New York Knicks’ Downhill Path In The Past Decade
It’s been three years since Carmelo Anthony last played for the New York Knicks. During that time, Anthony was somewhat considered as the scapegoat for the Knicks’ failures, and there was also a certain anticipation of the Knicks finally finding its footing going forward without Carmelo leading the team.
That still hasn’t happened yet though and the Knicks are still stuck in the same cycle of mediocrity while other rebuilding franchises have started to shape their future with potential stars and a solid young core. In fact, the last time the Knicks won 30 or more games in a season, was the time they had Carmelo as their first option.
Now appearing on ‘The Old Man and the Three’ podcast, Carmelo Anthony, who recently had a solid comeback season with the Portland Trail Blazers, spoke out about the Knicks’ failures in the past decade and elaborated how he was held responsible for the team’s inconsistency to grow and rebuild.
“People don’t understand — I’ve been in New York for seven and a half years. I’ve played for maybe four or five different coaches. So there was never no consistency we couldn’t grow, we couldn’t build,” Melo said. Moreover, he detailed how he played alongside a vast number of players in just a few years’ time.
“So, players, I played with over 100 players I had over 100 different teammates in seven years. Three GMs three presidents like and I’m getting and you put this all on me. So that’s when it all went downhill.”
