Michael Jordan Once Turned Down $100 Million For A Two Hour Appearance
When Michael Jordan’s agent David Falk was on WFAN’s “Boomer and Gio”, he talked about various kinds of appearance opportunities and marketing deals, worth a ridiculous amount of money, that Jordan has passed up on.
We know that Jordan is incredibly wealthy, not least because of Jordan Brand and his Charlotte Hornets stake. In 2018 alone, the greatest basketball player in history made $300 million, putting his net worth to $2.1 billion.
But even for a billionaire, you would assume that $100 million dollars is a lot of money. Well, according to Falk, it’s not enough for Michael Jordan to make a public appearance. He revealed that Jordan once turned down $100 million for a two-hour appearance:
“I brought him a deal three years ago for $100 million. All he had to do was, other than giving his name and likeness, make a one two-hour appearance to announce the deal and he turned it down. God bless him. He’s been so successful, it gives him an opportunity to do whatever the hell he wants or not to do things he doesn’t want. I really admire that. He’s very, very selective in the things he wants to be involved in.”
Jordan really never was in it for the money. In the late 80s, at a time Jordan wasn’t nearly as rich, he rejected an endorsement deal, worth $1 million per year (one fourth of his salary back then), because he didn’t like the product’s name.
